Finding Inspiration for Photography Projects:

Embracing the Journey of Starting Over.

Photography is an art form that requires not only technical skills but also a creative mind. Finding the right inspiration for your photography projects can sometimes be challenging, and there may be times when things don’t go as planned. But remember, every time you start over, you’re given a new opportunity to create something even better.

Finding Inspiration

Inspiration can come from anywhere. It could be a place, a person, a feeling, or even a simple object. Here are some ways to find inspiration for your photography projects:

  1. Explore the world around you: Take a walk in your local park, visit a museum, or travel to a new city. New environments can stimulate your creativity and provide fresh perspectives. I love to walk or sometimes travel on public transport, more ado since my car broke down. but my eyes are always open to inspiration I did not expect.

  2. Study the work of others: Look at the work of other photographers, both professionals and amateurs. You can learn a lot from their techniques and the way they see the world. I have loads of creative hero’s that feed my mind with all kinds of ideas, sometimes I look at their style or techniques.

  3. Participate in photography challenges: Many online platforms offer weekly or monthly photography challenges with specific themes. These can push you to think outside the box and try new things. This isn’t really me but different strokes for different folks, I defiantly look at what the competitions are looking for because it might be something I might not have explored before and it kind of reminds me of unidays when your set some random project that you have no interest in until you start the research.

When Things Don’t Go as Planned

It’s normal for things not to go as planned in any creative process. You might have a clear image in your mind, but the result doesn’t match your vision. Or perhaps you’re struggling to find a unique angle for your project. When this happens, don’t be discouraged. Instead, see it as an opportunity to learn and grow. I have a lot of work that has been unfinished or started over for many reasons, normally money but sometimes it’s just me.

Starting Over: A New Opportunity

Starting over can be frustrating, but it’s also a chance to reassess your work and approach it from a different angle. Here are some tips for when you find yourself starting over:

  1. Take a break: Sometimes, taking a step back can give you a fresh perspective on your project. Especially if your not on deadline, as sometime life throws you off your target.

  2. Seek feedback: Don’t hesitate to ask for feedback from others. They might offer valuable insights that you hadn’t considered. Sometimes you're in your own way, so advice from others, another set of eyes, might mean your own the right track just a little too close.

  3. Experiment: Don’t be afraid to try new techniques or styles. Experimentation can lead to unexpected and exciting results. It’s called the happy accident, you wasn’t intending on that but that’s where you landed.

Conclusion

Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Every time you start over, you’re learning something new. So embrace the process, keep exploring, and most importantly, enjoy your journey in the world of photography.
